- 4 sheets (at least) watercolour paper (22 x 30 in 140lb), or canvases or pre-prepared masonite hard boards, should be at least 16 x 20 in. or larger NB paper doesn’t have to be best quality watercolour paper (all purpose 140 lb paper will suffice) if you can paint with acrylics - Brushes- variety of 1”, 1 1/2, 2”, (dollar shop nylon or foam house painting brushes are acceptable - large is important!), some rounds, or normal watercolour brushes; - Any tools you already have that move paint around (or start collecting these at yard sales and dollar shops: sponges, sponge rollers, credit cards, combs, spatulas, scrapers, turkey basters, eye droppers etc; - Paint: all paint and mediums on the workshop are supplied by Tri-Art Acrylics. This will give you an opportunity to try out the wide range of products available on the market. (if you have a favourite colour which you can’t live without, bring it along too. - Spackle, or “polyfilla” or Durobond 90 (dry stuff will do) - (Optional: sand, small pebbles, egg shells, other textures or papers to collage with) - Everyone: Water containers with lids to accommodate large brushes (e.g. margarine tubs will do - one for each colour and several for water (total: at least 8-10)- this is important! (Buy cheap tubs at dollar stores if you throw out your food ones) - Mixing palette (butchers tray or Styrofoam tray will do); - Small jar of rubbing or isopropyl alcohol (to make corrections); - Boards (at least 2) as a support for paper (big enough for 22 x 30 in paper); - Plastic sheets to cover painting board(s); - Sketch book, Inspirational materials: photos, drawings; - Rubber (latex) gloves; - A cover for good clothes; - Water spritzer (mister) (available at dollar shops); - Plus ink, crayons, pastels, colour pencils or other supplies you already have on hand If you wish to work in watercolour, bring those along as well. - Old watermedia paintings (to work over and re-vitalize), Lunch, comfortable extra indoor shoes (you stand a lot to paint) © Shirley Mancino 2008 |
