Awaken your creative spirit and playful nature. White paper syndrome is common to artists at all levels. Not here! By pouring, texturizing, collaging and other fun techniques, you will magically produce realistic imagery or stunning abstractions. Shirley demonstrates experimental techniques using a luscious range of Tri-Art liquid paints and mediums. Demonstrations/instruction are customized to meet the needs of individual participants. You will also benefit from helpful personal attention, and constructive group discussion. Learn the surprising range of effects which can be achieved using acrylic mediums and grounds. Surprise yourself and laugh out loud as you make masterpieces using acrylics, and a variety of other media.


 

Experimental Collage Extravaganza: Liquid Acrylics

DATE: April 30 - May 1, 2011, 9 - 4 pm

 Learn to use liquid acrylics boldly and loosely as a vehicle for self-expression. This exciting workshop will help developing artists break free and explore new directions in acrylics and mixed media. By pouring, dripping, texturizing, layering, and collaging you will create stunning abstractions that you can then reincarnate into gorgeous representational works.  Composition and design is an integral part of the session. We will also create and employ stamps of real or fabricated ancient motifs within our paintings. Relax, play, and reconnect with your joyful creative self. Shirley will demonstrate using liquid acrylics and other media.

People-scapes/Landscapes with Panache


DATE: June 4 - 5, 2011, 9 - 4 pm

This workshop will feature the bold and free exploratory techniques mentioned above, and will also include simplified approaches to painting abstracted figures as well as figures in the landscape.  Participants will learn how to superimpose representational subjects on top of textural and abstract underpaintings while maintaining the essential mystery. Participants have the choice to maintain the illusion or build the image to quasi-representational detail.

Liquid Acrylics: Experimental Extravaganza

DATE: July 23 - 24, 2011, 9 - 4 pm

Learn to use wet and wild liquid acrylics as a vehicle for self-expression. By dripping, splattering, texturizing and incorporating other mixed media techniques, you will create stunning abstractions that you can then reincarnate into gorgeous representational works.  Composition and design is an integral part of the session. Relax, play, and reconnect with your joyful creative self.
 

Experimental Extravaganza: Collage

DATE: September 10 - 11, 2011, 9 - 4 pm

This exciting workshop will help you break free and explore new directions in mixed watermedia. You will loosen up and explore the interesting effects and textures created by combining liquid acrylics with other media: texture, paper, fibres. Discover ways to resurrect your unsuccessful watermedia paintings using liquid acrylics to integrate your piece and then collage or black ink, coloured pencil, gesso or gouache. You will be inspired to move from nature towards abstraction. Composition and design is a fundamental part of the session. Creativity, fun, and individual uniqueness will be emphasized. Shirley will demonstrate using Tri-art liquid acrylics, mediums and grounds.

All workshops are suitable for levels from beginner to advanced.
Workshops are limited to 8 participants.
Cost $175.00 for two-day workshop.
 

This is a Tri-Art sponsored Workshop, Tri-Art paints and
mediums are included for in-session use.

Workshops fill very quickly so register early to avoid disappointment. Send a cheque payable to Shirley Mancino at 68 Rebecca Lane, Westport ON K0G 1X0. Your place is reserved only once your cheque is received. If you bank online, you may pay by email money transfer.

Instructor Qualifications:  Shirley Mancino

Shirley has 30 years experience delivering workshops, and as a juror and art critic. She has a Master’s Degree in Adult Education and completed four years at the Ontario College of Art. She studied at Haliburton School of Fine Art and Belles Artes Institute in Mexico.  A recipient of numerous awards, she participates in juried shows and is represented by 5 galleries. Shirley‘s style is loose, ethereal and mystical, characterized by bold, vibrant colour.
 

Workshop Location:

The workshop takes place in Shirley’s stunning lakeside studio in the charming village of Westport. Enjoy the wonderful scenery, great shopping, hiking and other vacation activities - a truly breathtaking destination. Great B and Bs are a short walk away. On request, Shirley conducts workshops and demonstrations for art groups at your preferred location.
